Brain Imaging: Decoding Your Memories

نویسنده

چکیده

Arabidopsis flowers have four petals. Other floral organs are not represented on the diagram. KLU expression in petals is shown in red. Wild-type tissue is shown in yellow whereas klu mutant tissue is shown in blue. Wild-type flowers are larger than klu mutant flowers. Flowers that contain wild-type and mutant tissue (chimeric flowers) are of intermediate size between wild-type and mutant flowers. Note that all petals of the chimeric flower have the same size, despite the absence of KLU expression or partial KLU expression in some petals. Dispatch R269

Memory consolidation in humans: new evidence and opportunities

We are endlessly fascinated by memory; we desire to improve it and fear its loss. While it has long been recognized that brain regions such as the hippocampus are vital for supporting memories of our past experiences (autobiographical memories), we still lack fundamental knowledge about the mechanisms involved. This is because the study of specific neural signatures of autobiographical memories...

Neural Substrates Related to Motor Memory with Multiple Timescales in Sensorimotor Adaptation

Recent computational and behavioral studies suggest that motor adaptation results from the update of multiple memories with different timescales. Here, we designed a model-based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) experiment in which subjects adapted to two opposing visuomotor rotations. A computational model of motor adaptation with multiple memories was fitted to the behavioral data ...

P176: Neurological Diseases: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

The nervous system is an extremely complex communication system that can send and receive large amounts of information simultaneously. The nervous system has two distinct parts: the central nervous system (the brain and the spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (the nerves located outside the brain and spinal cord). The main unit of the nervous system is neural cells (neurons). The rou...

Thanks for the Memories …

HOW DOES MEMORY WORK? It turns out that there is one brain structure that appears to be a ‘memory maker’. Without it, we cannot remember anything that has happened to us, even from only a few minutes ago, let alone from last summer. Indeed, there was a very famous case of a patient named Henry Molaison (often referred to as H.M.), who had damage to his brain and was completely unable to form ne...

Modeling storage and retrieval of memories in the brain

We have proposed a neural network model that stores the incoming information after orthogonalizing it in the same manner as vectors are orthogonalized. The scheme enables the brain to compare a new informational system with those in the memory and store its similarities and differences with the old memories in an economical manner. This allows the brain to have an enormous capacity and yet the ...
